Teatermaskinen is an independent theatre company based in Riddarhyttan, Sweden. We have existed since 1997 and we are the result of series of collaborations from the mid 80´s and onwards. We produce issue based monologues that are made as tools for debate, touring Sweden and Norway.
We produce large-scale performances merging postdramatic text with the biopolitical body, using a compressed actor´s body as a membrane to the unknown.
We consider the theatre space a field of research where other realities and possibilities can be explored and manifested.In this space we work with The Languague of the Forest people where we use ourselves as rabbits exploring how a culture is created and investigating other realities. We work with Projekt Riddarhyttan where we research the hidden histories of our village. We are funders of the @worknetwork which is an artistic network connecting the arts with the civil society. We are also creating a series of artistic platforms within Filmmaskinen, Dansmaskinen, Höghastighetsmaskinen and Maskinen Förlag.
We work continuously in an interactive situation where we have dissolved the idea of spectators and consider everyone a participant in the processes going on in the space.
Since 2000 we are developing an international workspace in our village: Workspace Teatermaskinen. In the fall of 2009 we will build this space in collaboration with German architect Axel Tangerding.
