Symposiums on neglected knowledge May - September 2009 MYTH - PERCEPTIONS OF REALITY - COSMOLOGY - COLONIZATION First meeting: The Language of the forest people and Maori knowledge 27-28/5 Third meeting: Sibirean, Sami and Tibetan Culture 25-27/9
During the summer of 2009, we invite practitioners, researchers, artists in order to try to understand other worlds and cultures. We want to open spaces to seek for other kinds of knowledge and how it can be used in our times. Programme 27th of May: Teatermaskinen´s research project The language of the forest people, a project where we investigate how a culture is created, seek knowledge in man´s relation to nature and explore the preconditions for a new theatre and a new world. The programme contains of an introduction, lecture and a visit to the island where the forest people live. The programme is presented in English. Programme 28th of May: Erena Rhöse: Maori – the people of the water Erena is a Maori woman native of Aotearoa (New Zealand), who has lived in Sweden for 24 years, married to a Swedish husband. Her Maori name means “flying, hopping peace star”. Erena is the daughter of paramount chiefs of the Ngati Kahungunu, Raukawa, and member of the royal family from the Waikato tribe. She is a guardian carrier of tribal knowledge and a doctor of traditional Maori medicine. She travels back to Aotearoa regularly. Erena has been invited to many countries to speak at conferences, about her cultural concept of the earth - mother earth. She lectures at Karlstad University on the subject of ecology-philosophy (ekosofi). The programme is presented in English.
Program 28th of August 17:00 Meeting the Iroquois culture - Eagle Bear Charles Meet with Eagle Bear Charles of the Oneida Indian Nation in a lecture on Iroquois culture and his artistic work with mask and costume. In the evening there will be an introduction to shamanistic work and the possibility to participate in a shamanistic ritual. The program will be held in English and continues until midnight. Program 29th of August 17:00 Meeting the Inca Culture Meet the film maker Cesar Galindo, APU-RIMAQ (musicians of the Andes) Programme starts in the morning and ends round midnight
On earth there are different ways to relate to Mother Earth. The different cultures all have their ways to get in contact with her, with oneself and ones surroundings. In the Andes, in Peru the Despacho Ceremony (Despacho means “sacrifice” in Quecha) the essential in all spiritual work. A despaco ceremony can be compared with preparing a feast for Pacha Mama. A kind of thanksgiving for what we have or what we wish to enter our lives. It is a direct dialogue with the powers of nature. The participants can place gifts of gratefulness, prayers and wishes to as for wealth, healing, harmony etc. The spiritual leader in Andin tradition, Paqu prepares the collective sacrifice of gratefulness to Pachamama (Mother Earth) and Apus (Mountain Spirits). These gifts and prayer are sent by guides spirits and spirits of nature when the gifts of sacrifice are burnt or buried by the Andin mystic or Paqu. In the despacho there is red and white as two obligatory ingredients, red representing Pacha Mama, Mother Earth and white Apus, the mountains. There are despachos to do for various aspects and moments in life, it´s said to be about two hundred different aspects. We will work with Ayni Despacho to come in the right relation to Mother Earth, oneself and ones surroundings. Ayni also means to say Yes to life. Cesar Galindo will show the short movies: RITI - Ice (12 min) about indian pilgrimage to collect forces (the ice) from the holy mountains “Qoilloriti”. APU-RIMAQ - Music group of the Andes concisting of Angel Condori, Mauro Condori, Ysaias Torres. The programme will be held in Swedish and will continue until around midnight.
